What can picurl do for me?
We created picurl because we were frustrated with conventional photo management software. "Offline" software like Aperture lacks the capability to manage images stored on photosharing sites/webservers, "Online" photosharing sites don't care about your locally saved images. This is where picurl comes into the play. Here are some typical use cases:
- Your photo collection is distributed
When you save your photos in more than one place (e.g. local hard disk and flickr), you have a hard time to overview/manage your photo collection. In picurl, you can simply mount these places as stores and see everything at a glance. - You want to compile photo collections from different sources
Remember the last wedding party... not only you took pictures, but also your cousins Bob and Alice. Now you need the best shots for the wedding DVD. But Bob just sends a link to his Picasa album and Alice hands in a CD. And your images are still on the CompactFlash card. With conventional tools, you end up in a Copy/Paste/Rename/Save Link as...-Orgy, but with picurl, it's just one command. - You have to distribute photos via e-Mail
Your clients/relatives/friends expect you to send your images via e-Mail. The problem: You can't attach the original images because of attachment limits. And you don't want to attach web links to the images because of the cumbersome download procedure. picurl has the solution: Placeholder Thumbnails - a smart thumbnail that directly references to the original image.
